HIV in the elderly community may seem shocking to most due to the age but it does happen more than what the public may think. Here are some interesting facts that I believe may surprise you. These statistics are taken from the Dallas County Disease Reporting Profile (2013-2016), in the profile, it lists several factors in which the patient contracted HIV. In 2013, there were 44 new cases, 2014 58 cases, 2015 45 cases, and in 2016 61 new cases in that fall in the 55 and older population. The facts also highlighted that men who sleep with men (MSM) are still the highest subgroup that is at risk for HIV/AIDS infection.
